Garage flooring options

If you’re thinking about changing the flooring in your garage, you’re no doubt looking for a durable option. I mean let’s face it, your garage floor takes a beating! Not only do you drive on it, but it can easily become stained from all the equipment you keep in there!

So, we’ve put together this list of our top choices. There’s something for every budget, so all you need to do is consider how much you want to spend, your personal tastes and the kind of protection you’re looking for.

Tiles

Tiles are the most expensive option, but also the most durable. You can choose from vinyl composition tiles, like the kind used in supermarkets, snap-together rubber tiles (or a rubber mat), or porcelain tiles. Porcelain tiles are the most durable, snap-together tiles are the easiest to clean, and vinyl composition tiles are the least likely to stain.

Paint

Paint is the cheapest option, and is still relatively durable. If you paint your garage floor with latex-based or acrylic paint, you’ll need to repaint every two to three years. Besides being economical, paint is easy to clean, although it is more vulnerable to painting!

Epoxy paint

Epoxy paint is the most popular choice. Slightly more expensive than latex or acrylic paint, but more durable as well as being water and stain resistant. What’s more, with epoxy paint, you can choose the finish by selecting the types of flakes and chips.

Regardless of the type of flooring you choose, the most important thing is properly preparing the concrete; that means filling in any cracks! Speak with a flooring specialist, they’ll be able to advise you how to proceed with preparing the floor and explain why the different options vary in price.
